Apologies, the time just slipped past and the website didn’t get updated, so here goes with some of the highlights for the last months of 2012 and into 2013.
A great time was had on our October holiday in Majorca – the weather was kind to us, most of the 10 days – sea warm, soft sand and plenty to eat and drink. All inclusive; bar ran out of Baileys! Some good trips including a hair raising drive up narrow, very steep twisty mountain roads. Well done our two drivers who got all of us and hire car & mini-bus back in one piece. Deep into caves another day, walks and several markets. Planning now for this year - will it be Tunisia, Cyprus, Greece????
In November 20 of us went to the Assembly Rooms in Melksham for a forties night Blitz Ball. Lots of great costumes (that’s us) and a burlesque act for the entertainment. We even won the prize for the ‘most fun’ table.
Later in November a small coterie (6) went on a mini turkey & tinsel break to Ostend for the Belgium Christmas Markets and CHOCOLATE. Probably be Scotland for a mini Christmas break this year.
For our main club Christmas ‘do’ pretty well all the club members put on DJs or posh frocks and headed to Grittleton House for the Christmas Dinner/Dance. (Looking to do something different this year – still at planning stage though so check back in a month or so.)
Another Christmas dance, this time at the Woodlands in Calne with eats – all brought nibbles – and our very own Santa and Mother Claus dishing out the Secret Santa pressies, (thank you who ever for my lovely chunky socks useful in wellies in the snow).
A lively–ish New Years Eve – that’s one of the benefits of being part of a group, even if the venue leaves something to be desired there are enough of us to make the party.
January, we thought would be a bit quiet but apart from the usual skittles and sociable dancing and jiving on Saturday nights we have had a few specials. The Audley Arms having recently opened a bistro ‘The Brickyard’ a good number of us met early (before or regular meeting) to sample the fare – very tasty. The chips are the best ever! They do a good Sunday lunch too.
A dozen of us celebrated Burns Night at Seend. A fantastic night – almost too full of haggis and Tipsy Laird to get up and join in the lively but somewhat dishevelled dancing to the ceildih band – the caller did his best to organise us, maybe the tot(s) of whisky did for us.
Another enjoyable Monday evening at the Wharf Theatre in Devizes for Noel Coward’s comedy ‘Blithe Spirit’ – two wives is definitely at least one two many.
Coming soon - already planned ; a Non-Valentines Day Walk and lunch; The Wiltshire Farmers’ Ball; Bath Theatre Royal for the Ballet Swan Lake in March.
And all the usual; skittles, going to dances, no doubt eating out - Sunday lunch or pre-meeting, cinema. May be Pub Quiz nights – researching which are not too serious and have a friendly atmosphere, any suggestions?
Join us for a varied social life; do things you wouldn’t do on your own, life is most definitely for living!
